Gabe's latest moves...

So apparently in the world of blogging, I suck.  I realize now how important it is to follow through with something that you start, so to all of my readers out there, especially those at the Ohio Department of Axtation (name changed to protect your top secret identity since you all read my blog from work) please accept my deepest apologies!

Latest update has two different phases, both noteworthy of sharing.  The first comes the night before my first trip to a casino.  I was all packed to leave after school as Gabe was going to whisk me off to a weekend of fun in Windsor.  My bags were meticulously packed (my first mistake), and sitting by the dresser waiting for me to grab in the morning (see picture below).

When I went to bed...

I rolled over around 3 AM to see Gabe hovered over my nicely packed bags.  Though now, these bags were not packed anymore as Gabe was taking each item out one by one (in a very organized fashion if I have to give him some credit), he was scurrying through the bags like a raccoon, and then placing each item nicely on the floor.  “What are you doing babe?” I ask, “Those are my bags for the trip tomorrow”  He looks up with my hairdryer in his hand, “I don’t know what you are talking about, you aren’t going anywhere.”  “Well alright then” was all I said before I set my alarm 15 minutes early to re-pack whatever the damage was that I was saving for a morning assessment.  Much to my surprise, when I got up in the morning, my bags were not only packed back up, but they were partially stuffed underneath the bed and the nightstand.  Clearly he was serious when he said I wasn’t going anywhere!

The view the next morning...

The next incident came two nights after a calming weekend in a hotel (he doesn’t seem to do much sleep walking in hotels, other than some crazy nights in Vegas involving coffee tables!).  I woke up to find Gabe pacing outside of the bathroom that is attached to our bedroom.  “What are you doing babe?”, I ask as he continues to pace back and forth, looking in at the door every few paces.  “I’m waiting” he states, his words not interrupting his pace.  “What are you waiting for?” I ask, hoping this wasn’t a stupid question.  “The bathroom, there’s someone in there.”  First I am worried, now he’s not only sleep walking, but now he’s seeing things.. I get up to assess the situation myself, heart beating, as a peer into the bathroom to find nothing but the usual (Gabe’s hoarder collection of Gillette products to boot, see picture below).  “There’s no one in there babe, you can go in” I said, trying to guide him towards the door.  “No that’s okay” he claims as he climbs back into bed.  “Are you sure you don’t have to go?” I ask impatiently, only to realize that I am not going to get a response as the snoring on the right side of the bed has already begun again.

Gabe's Gillette addiction...

I hope that this post will redeem my presence here in the blogging world.  I promise to be a better blogger in the future.  Cross your fingers for me and a good nights sleep.

goodnight, world.

what happens when you fall asleep at night?  do you toss and turn? do you snore? talk every once and a while perhaps?  maybe you are not aware of your sleep habits, or maybe you just hear about it the next morning.  i had no idea what the life of a sleep walker was like until i met gabe, my boyfriend, ten months ago.  we started hanging out, and instantly made a connection.  we began dating and learning more about each other.  it wasn't until i went to his house to meet his family that i learned something a little bit more about this guy i was really starting to like.

we were in his bedroom talking (yes just talking, get your head out of the gutter!) when i realized that the blinds on his window were broken.  i brought it up thinking that maybe one of the dogs had jumped up and caused the damaged.  he calmly answered, "oh that's when i was saving a two year old boy from jumping out of the window, but don't worry, i saved him". my first reaction was obviously that he was joking, until i looked over and realized that he was dead serious. "excuse me?" was my only reaction. he went on further to explain that he was a sleep walker and had been since he was a child.  he had a dream where a two year old was about to fall out of a window, so he leaped out of bed to catch the child before he jumped.  instead of actually catching a child, he woke up to find the wooden blinds in his room torn to the floor.  this was the night i learned that when gabe goes to sleep his dreams come alive... literally.

i became fascinated with this side of gabe.  as a health teacher, i wanted to know what caused him to literally dive out of bed when he had a dream about baseball, what made him physically stand up in bed to get out of someone's way has he apologizes, "i'm sorry, i didn't see you there", then lay back down to go to sleep, and have no memory of it the next morning.  while there are tons of theories out there on sleep walking, i started making my own observations on when he would have active dreams and what else happened that day.  after looking at diet, exercise, and caffeine intakes, there wasn't a certain thing that would cause any certain activity.

every night when we go to bed, it's a toss up whether i will wake up to have a conversation with gabe, bring him back to bed, or have him standing up next to me conducting a live orchestra. our friends always get a kick out of the stories, because most of them, gabe does not remember.  i decided to start this blog to track the shenanigans that happen when the lights go out on skyline drive. stay tuned.
